2025 Summer CAMP
Full Program in 3D Animation & Modeling For kids & teens ages 12–17
Program Overview
This 8-week creative bootcamp is designed to introduce students to the exciting world of 3D animation and modeling using Blender. Students will learn essential skills to bring characters, 3D models, and scenes to life—guided by professional instructors.
start date: june 16, 2025
What Students
Will Achieve
By the end of the Summer Camp Program at Synapse School, your child will:
Be able to model 3D objects and animate characters using Blender.
Gain hands-on experience in the full creative pipeline—from concept to final animation.
Complete a 20–30 second original animated short film, showcasing both modeling and animation skills.
Publish their animated short online and proudly share it with friends, family, and the world—their very first portfolio piece in 3D art and animation.
This is more than just a camp. It’s a launchpad for creativity, confidence, and future careers.
What Students
Need to Bring
To get the most out of the program, students are required to bring:
💻 A Laptop or MacBook That Can Run Blender. For Minimum Recommended Specs check this Blender’s official page: Requirements — blender.org
Blender will be pre-installed on the first day if needed. We’ll help students set it up.
✏️ Notebook and Pencil
For sketching, taking notes, storyboarding, and brainstorming ideas.
🖱️ External Mouse
Blender works much better with a mouse (especially with a scroll wheel).
8-Week
Curriculum Breakdown
📽️ What Students Will Create:
During the 8-week program, students will work together to create a 20–30 second animated short film using Blender*. The story follows a boy building a colorful air balloon and flying into the sky, where she sees uplifting cloud-shaped motivational words.
Through this creative journey, students will learn the fundamentals of 3D modeling and animation, helping them explore future careers in film, gaming, architecture, product design, or creative tech industries.
*Blender is a free, open-source 3D tool used for modeling, animation, sculpting, texturing, rendering, and video editing—all in one software.
Week 1: Introduction to Blender & Animation Basics
Students will get familiar with Blender’s interface, navigation tools, and learn to model simple 3D shapes. They’ll also explore the basics of keyframe animation and bring basic objects to life.
Week 2: Air Balloon Blockout & Simple Character Animation
Students will begin blocking out the main parts of their hot air balloon. They’ll also learn introductory character animation techniques like idle movements and simple gestures.
Week 3: Modeling Main Elements & Action Animations
The focus shifts to detailed modeling of the balloon, basket, and accessories. In animation, students will practice more dynamic movements—walking, interacting, and simple building actions.
Week 4: Storyboarding & Pre-Production
Students will learn storytelling fundamentals and create a storyboard for their animated short. Modeling continues while they begin animating scenes with basic camera movement and character actions.
Week 5: Texturing & Scene Setup
Students will apply colors and materials to their modeled balloons. In animation, they’ll insert the balloon into their animation scene and begin assembling the sequence.
Week 6: Environment Building & Scene Animation
Using premade assets, students will build a 3D environment for their animation. They will begin integrating character and object animations into this environment.
Week 7: Final Animation & Cloud Modeling
Students will finalize all remaining animations and add atmospheric elements like stylized clouds. Text elements (e.g. titles or messages) are introduced.
Week 8: Sound, Editing & Final Movie Export
In the final week, students will add sound effects and background music, sequence their animation, and export the final movie—ready to be shared as their first 3D animation portfolio piece.
